This Polish theatre spectacular recalls all those refugees and displaced people who travel the continents and warm their souls with memories of home. With stunning staging which includes flame-lit structures which move through the audience and a giant winged ship, this production packs an emotional punch in delivering a universal story which will also be the finale of this year’s GDIF. Opening with a wedding party, which is broken up by military invasion, a community must decide what it values before fleeing to safety. As refugees move from conflict towards the future of a promised land, a giant ship appears and seems to offer hope. Strong physical performances , Balkan music and fire effects combine to tell this powerful story of the scattering of communities in war.

Arka will be presented on the exact 100th anniversary of the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand in Sarajevo in 2014, the event that rapidly escalated into the outbreak of the First World War, providing a timely reminder of the fragility of peace.
